Realism Chapter.1 Prologue
There are four places in my school. You can be whoever you want, but you can only be in one group. There are ones considered popular, nerds, losers, and then there's the people in between. I fit into the last one, along with my friends, Nina, Olivia, and Matt. All three of us have known each other since we could talk, and we've never split ever since.
The end of my grade 10 year is coming to a soon end. Most people in this school are overjoyed for it to end, but that's not an option for me.
In almost all my classes I'm getting a 'B'. That may not sound bad to some people but it is for me. Nina has straight 'A's', Matt's grades are even better, (I think he has 110% in Math wtf) and then there's Olivia with two 'B's' and the rest 'A's'.
The only reason I'm worried is because all three of them will get to go to an exclusive school, while I'll be left alone at the normal high school.
The last few weeks of school I haven't really been hanging out with the ones I call friends because I can't stand to be around them. All they do when I'm with them is brag about their grades.
REALITY:
As soon as the big yellow bus dropped me off at school I instantly started to walk in the direction of my locker. Unfortunately it is right beside this snobby, somehow popular girl named Bellathy, but she prefers being called Bella.
"Uhh, like, why are you here?" Bella said, imitating a valley girl. "This is my locker" I replied sarcastically. "Not anymore" she said. I didn't understand what she meant by that, but like every other day I ignored her and went to open my locker.
I slowly opened it cautious of what she said. As soon as it was wide open I glanced at it a few times adjusting my eyes. All my belongings were no longer occupying my blue metal locker, instead, it was full of glittery shit. As my jaw hung low, Bella just leaned against her locker smirking. "What the heck!" I said quietly but intimidating. All she could say was, "I told you it wasn't your locker Robyn, maybe you should like, listen to people when they tell you stuff." Her voice sickened me, but before I could further investigate this violation she walked away in sync with the 5 minute warning bell.
Obviously I was going to be late for class, because I didn't know where the hell my stuff was. I closed my eyes then breathed, my books were most likely in the office.
I was half way there when someone jumped on my back almost making me fall over. I let out a small yelp not wanting to embarrass myself. After they were off of my back I looked behind myself with suspicions. Of course, it was Matt.
"Ha! Did I scare you?" Matt said. I looked at him annoyed "you idiot! You could have killed me!" At first his face looked hurt, but then we both started laughing. "Every time" he said mid laugh, "come on! We gotta go to science. This way!" He said in a dramatic way starting to drag me along with him. "Hey. Get your hands off me." I told him, I always new he had a crush on me between our circle of friends, but I liked us better as friends. "I have to go find my stuff. I'll explain later." "Um, ok" was all he said, and he walked away in the direction of our first class frequently looking over his shoulder back at me.
I arrived at the office to find my things sitting on a wooden chair. The principle and secretary were both gone, which I found strange, actually I hadn't seen any teachers all morning. Shrugging, I walked to the chair and leaned down. As soon as I picked up my books I felt a weird 'wave' go through me and I got extremely tired for a minute. I shook it off, checked my surroundings, and then left hoping I could get across the never ending hallway before class started.
As I panted into science right before the bell, I looked to my friends for an empty seat. Like usual, Olivia had already sat beside Nina, so I walked over to the double seater desk in front of them and sat down by Matt.
After Matt investigated my face by staring at me, he looked in all directions, his black combed back hair flipping the opposite directions he looked, as if he was about to tell a secret. Then he leaned in close to me, I could smell his light coat of axe and I actually enjoyed it. "So, why'd you ditch me in the hall?" He whispered. I didn't really want to talk to him because I felt like I could sleep. Instead of saying, a bitch kicked me out of my locker I just said, "had to find my books"
my eyes felt like there was sand in them. Matt could tell I was tired and didn't bother trying to pry more information out of me. I greatly appreciated him for this. I started to think about how I became friends with him in the first place but I couldn't remember. I rested my head against the table letting it slide off to the left until it met with Matt's arm and stopped.
I felt him slightly twinge, but otherwise he stayed still. I could feel Olivia's dark blue eyes digging a hole into my head. I knew she liked Matt, but why would he fall in love with a dumb blonde? I thought to myself. I was almost asleep when I heard an announcement come on. I didn't really catch what it said, but when it was over Matt placed his hand on my head and started shaking it.
"Huh? What?" I said lazily. "No school today! The teachers have some last minute meeting thing" Matt said. "Uh hu" was all I could say, not moving. Olivia stood from her chair and personally stood me up by the shirt saying, "meaning, we can go home Robyn."
I brushed her hands away and started to leave the class, with my hand in the air saying good bye. Before I could step out the door I heard Matt, "hey Robyn. Wanna hang later?" I turned to see his cheeks turn pink, and Olivia's face red. "I got a new video game" he offered. I stood there for a minute then replied, "maybe tomorrow, I'm pretty tired." The pink on his cheeks consumed his whole face, "ya, of course, sorry, ya ok tomorrow then." He quickly stuttered out. "See ya" I said, then left.
I grabbed my backpack from the hallway where I had left it. I walked to the school door, secretly looking back at the science room to find Matt watching me go.
I quickly shuffled down the hallway and out the door. Luckily my house was only three blocks away.
The sun was burning through my shoulder length light brown hair that could be mistaken for red. The light wind accented the hot weather that I had to force my body to walk through.
I barely made it to the first block when, being blinded by the sun, I tripped over something. I heard a high pitched laugh I recognized behind me. I stood up and brushed myself off. Laughing on my right hand side was Nina. "It's not that funny, wait how'd you get here?" I asked. After she calmed herself she clued me in, "we both have to walk this way you know. I've been following you from school, I'm surprised you didn't notice me." The last part she kinda said sadly. "Sorry... I'm just, not feeling well today" was all I could and wanted to say.
We both walked beside each other, I looked at her curiously and noticed she was wearing makeup. Which was a first for her. Surprisingly it looked pretty good with her dark brown, chin cut hair. My amazing makeup talents must have rubbed off on her. I smiled to myself and we walked the rest of the way in silence.
Nina's house was first. We parted ways and I waved goodbye. I continued one more block and came to my log house, which looked like it should be a getaway house in a forest.
I walked through the front door and accidentally slammed it behind me. Oh shit. My dad wasn't very fond of loud, distracting sounds. I ran upstairs to my bedroom and shut the door. I scanned the room, making sure my younger brother didn't meddle with anything. After I made sure everything was in order I sat down on my bed.
I honestly didn't know what I was going to do now. I did want to sleep, but it was only 10am. I decided against it. I could go hang out with Matt and play video games... But things might get awkward... I then heard the telephone ring downstairs.
I heard a beep, which meant someone must have answered it. "Robyn! The phones for you!!" I heard my brother say as loud as he could. I sighed then walked downstairs.
My six year old brother handed me the wireless phone and I walked to the bathroom where it would be quiet.
"Hello?" I asked, waiting to find out who was on the other side.
Why I chose this one?
This was an interesting one for me to choose, because I wrote it randomly one day, and now the next chapters are getting exciting. This story is kind of like a person's experience of lucid dreaming but a twisted version where it actually is a dream but real at the same time. So I wanted to share it :) I also had to do some research on lucid dreaming before I started writing, so I learned something.
